Please find below the invitation to the 20th Anniversary commemoration event for Op Medusa. All serving members and veterans are welcome to attend.
Twenty years ago, Canadians answered the call during Operation MEDUSA, the largest Canadian combat operation since the Korean War. Led by 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (1 RCR), Task Force 3-06 was tasked with clearing Taliban insurgents from the Panjwai District of Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.
The mission demanded extraordinary courage, resilience, and professionalism. More than 1,000 Canadians, alongside 400 Allied troops, took part in the offensive. The cost was significant: 12 Canadian soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice, and many more were wounded. Their service and sacrifice continue to be felt by families, friends, and comrades-in-arms across Canada.
We will pay tribute to the soldiers, sailors, aviators, and civilian supporters who contributed to the mission, and we celebrate the legacy of Task Force 3-06 whose leadership and determination helped shape one of the most significant chapters in modern Canadian military history.
Twenty years later, we pause to remember their service, honour their sacrifice, and reflect on the enduring impact of Operation MEDUSA.
Join us on 11 September 2026 at 1 RCR, Garrison Petawawa as we commemorate the 20th anniversary of Operation MEDUSA.
Pro Patria. Lest We Forget.
