The Royal Canadian Legion, Ontario Provincial Command is shocked and deeply concerned by the recent attack on a Canadian Armed Forces member who was supervising Air Cadets during a poppy campaign activity in Hamilton.
The Poppy Campaign is one of the Legion’s most important annual initiatives, made possible through the dedication of countless volunteers, cadets, serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces, veterans, and community supporters who generously give their time to honour Canada’s veterans and support those in need.
The participation of cadets and volunteers is invaluable, and their commitment reflects the spirit of remembrance and service that the campaign represents.
We are grateful that law enforcement authorities acted quickly and have identified and charged the individual alleged to be responsible for this incident. We appreciate the professionalism and diligence of all those involved.
Our thoughts are with the injured Canadian Armed Forces member, their family, colleagues, and the cadets who witnessed or were impacted by this disturbing event. No volunteer, cadet, or service member should face violence while participating in activities that support our veterans and communities.
We wish the injured member a full and speedy recovery and thank all those who continue to support the Poppy Campaign across the country.
